My Co-parent and I can’t reach a decision to Vaccinate our 5-year-old for COVID-19, Do I have legal remedies?

Dear Attorneys,

My co-parent and I can’t reach a decision about whether or not to have our 5-year-old get the COVID-19 vaccine. Do I have any legal remedies?

Dear Concerned,

That largely depends on who has legal decision making for your child. If you and your co-parent have joint legal custody, then you will need to work together to reach a decision. If you cannot reach a decision on your own, you can seek out a co-parenting counselor, parenting coordinator, or, you can take the legal route and either retain an attorney, or hire a mediator to help you reach a decision. That said, if you do have joint legal custody, neither of you are allowed to take unilateral action, so if one of you does, that could cause other issues, such as contempt motions down the road.
