Can I Sign My Pre-nup the Day Before My Wedding?

Dear Attorneys,

My wedding is coming up in a couple weeks and my attorney said that she wants me to sign the pre-nup at least a week in advance of the wedding date. I don’t have time until the day before, is this okay?

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Our policy on pre-nup agreements is also generally that the parties must sign at least one week in advance. The reason for this is because you do not want either party to feel as though he or she was rushed or forced into anything by signing on the “eve” of the wedding. While the hope when you draft a pre-nuptial agreement is that you will not ultimately need to use it, we still want to ensure that it is valid and signed without either party under any duress so that it cannot be challenged. You should probably speak with your attorney and try to arrange a signing as soon as possible.
